What to Expect From Your Contact Lens Exam

  • Regular eye exam

During your comprehensive eye exam your optometrist will check that your eyes are healthy and will test your vision to determine your contact lens prescription.

  • Contact lens consultation

During your contact lens exam your optometrist will check for dry eye symptoms and consult with you to determine what type of contact lenses are the best fit for your lifestyle and vision needs.

  • Contact lens fitting

For ideal vision correction and comfort, contact lenses must fit well. Your optometrist will examine the size and shape of your cornea and pupil to ensure the right fit.

  • Contact lens trial and follow-up

Your optometrist will insert trial lenses and ask you to keep them on for 15-20 minutes to be sure the fit is comfortable and vision is clear. After a few days, you'll come in for a follow-up evaluation.

Dr. Milita waived an optical scan payment when a dilation procedure wouldn’t take. I found out th... ere is some abnormal issue with one eye but she assured me everything would turn out fine. She also recommended I get a second opinion if I choose to do so, which no eye care let alone health care provider has ever instilled in me. Great service and care all around.

Smooth process from beginning to end! I found all of the team members to be approachable, friendly,... and professional. Dr. Petrauskaite was extremely knowledgeable and able to give me an exact prescription to manage my post-operative vision needs. Soooooooo, the first time around, I was not happy with the way my glasses turned out (entirely my fault, when ordering 😳)! Thomas D. was gracious and empathetic towards my debacle, and the manager was understanding enough to allow the remake of the 2nd pair, which ultimately fulfilled my needs... I am truly appreciative and will absolutely recommend 20/20 Image Eye Centers to my friends and colleagues, moving forward! 🤗

I had a really good visit. I like the fact they were not just trying to get money but they made sure... everything was within my budget. They were not pushy trying to get me to get expensive frames but were able to find similar styles that were within my budget. The doctor was professional and pleasant. I didn’t have to wait at all for my appointment they took me right in the back to get started. I will make this my new eye doctor while living in Arizona.

Contact Lens Exams FAQs

Can dry eye sufferers wear contact lenses?

Usually, yes. While some types of contact lenses can aggravate symptoms of dry eye syndrome, such as eye dryness, redness and irritation, other contacts are perfectly suitable for dry eyes. Speak with an eye doctor near you regarding your dry eye symptoms, and they'll prescribe the perfect contact lenses for ultimate comfort.

Can a child wear contact lenses?

It's a case-by-case basis. Typically, eye doctors don’t prescribe contacts to children under the age of 11 or 12, though there are exceptions. Wearing contact lenses requires responsible care, including cleaning and disinfecting routines. Most teenagers can handle contact lens care if they’re motivated to wear contacts.

Do I need an eye exam and prescription for tinted contact lenses?

Yes! Even if you’re just using contacts to change the color of your eyes, you still need an eye exam and a prescription. Contact lenses are a medical device and require fitting by an eye doctor.
